Ron Martin was born and raised in Hollywood, California. The last of eight children in a family that only wanted seven, Ron lived in an abusive environment that from an early age left him shattered and wounded. When Ron was eleven years old his father’s death sent him spiraling downward and by the age of fifteen he was a failing student, an alcoholic, and a drug user/dealer with a history of violent behavior. He attended five different High Schools and was considered by many to be incorrigible. Through the dramatic intervention of a High School youth minister, Ron eventually accepted Christ in the summer of 1971. The remaining years of High School saw a dramatic turn in Ron’s life. He became an excellent student and was the first of his family to graduate High School and enter college.
In college Ron studied architectural and mechanical engineering and has worked for several Architectural firms in the Los Angeles area. In addition to his engineering training Ron attended UCLA and studied classical literature, Latin and philosophy.
In 1977 Ron married Lauren Pendergraft, then switched careers to electronic engineering for television broadcasting and the specialized work of television and film post-production where he has worked for over thirty years.
Ron has worked for the ABC television network, several major post-production companies in the Hollywood creative community, and for twelve years was Vice President of Engineering at Universal Studios Hollywood. During his career, Ron was instrumental in the engineering and implementation of the DVD home video format, the Digital and High Definition Television broadcast standards for the United States, in addition to working on the development of the technologies for Digital Cinema and the Blu-ray Disc format.
In 1975 through 1978 Ron completed the Logos Bible Institute (which later became The Master's Seminary) at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California. There he studied Biblical Theology, Greek, and Hebrew. Ron has also attended classes at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando Florida, and Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena California. Ron has been involved in adult Christian education since 1978 and in 1986 was invited to teach at the Logos Bible Institute where he developed curriculum and taught classes in Spiritual Growth, Spiritual Disciplines, Apologetics, Early Christian Literature, and Theological studies.
Since leaving the Logos program in 1990 Ron has taught in a number of evangelical Churches, always keeping the goal of helping others build a deeper level of commitment to God through Jesus Christ our Savior. Ron’s teaching style is to use his experiences in his entertainment career and philosophical training to illustrate Biblical truth and create life changing, practical principles for a life dedicated to loving, honoring, and serving God.
In 2002 the Exploring The Heart seminars were developed with the aid of leaders from 6 different churches to create an environment where personal growth and deep relationships occur in the lives of attendees in a powerful, intensive and accelerated manner.
In 2007, Ron and Lauren made their home in Bayfield, Colorado at the base of the beautiful San Juan Mountains. They have two adult daughters, Elizabeth and Rebecca, and two grandchildren.
Ron is a member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, the Theological Philosophical Society, and the American Association of Christian Counselors.
